Posted by bhspioneerspirit on May 7, 2008

Batesville High School students are joining in the fight against cancer by raising money and walking the Batesville High School Track at Pioneer Stadium on Friday, May 9 beginning at 6:00 PM.

The FCCLA and Beta Club are co-hosting this “Mini-Relay,” which is an abbreviated version of the American Cancer Society’s® national signature activity, Relay For Life®.  BHS students are forming teams and collecting donations throughout the month of April until May 9 and will walk the track for one evening.

The welcome and survivor’s lap will begin at 6:00 PM .  All cancer survivors and their loved ones are invited to participate in the Survivor’s Lap.

A Luminary Ceremony will occur at 9:30 with the Closing Ceremony occurring at 11:00 where awards will be presented to the winning teams.

The “Mini-Relay” will be evening event complete with music, refreshments, and decorations.  All money raised by the BHS students will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

“It’s a great opportunity for the students to make an impact in the community as well as become knowledgeable about cancer. The students feel good about themselves knowing they are doing something to help others,” said Carolyn Hubbell, BHS FCCLA sponsor and the “Mini-Relay” co-coordinator.

“Our goal is to raise $2500, which will be donated to the Independence County’s Relay for Life, scheduled for May 30-31,” stated Tammy Gillmore, Beta Club sponsor.  “So far, we have about twelve teams signed up.  This is exciting to have so much support for such a worthy cause.”
