Once again, technology has managed to change the lives of those seeking a way to reach others in this generation. Blogs are the new way both faculty and students voice their opinions on current issues and other mind-compelling topics.
Online literacy surprised senior Jon-Michael Poff in a way he never thought possible when one of his posts was published in Edutopia Magazine.
The California Magazine’s choice of Poff’s blog post proves that writing is a powerful way to be heard. “Powerful writing has the ability to shape the hearts and minds of people,” said Jon-Michael.
Ideas are only as effective as the number of people who hear them. Jon-Michael stated, “Blogging lets you write to a huge audience – no less than the web-using world.”
While Jon-Michael was overwhelmed with this once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity, he gives full credit to his English teacher Mrs. Huff for her influence in his blog.
Mrs. Huff also has her own blog that she tries to frequently update. “It inspires me to keep learning, to keep improving, to give back to education and to improving our schools,” said Mrs. Huff.
Blogging has become more and more involved in education and across the nation as a means of influence in the ever-changing world. Mrs. Huff stated, “I read. I think. I write. I discuss and debate. These are the habits of a literate lifestyle.”
